Full details of Spencer P Jones & The Nothing Butts have been confirmed.

Talk about a new supergroup led by Beasts Of Bourbon/The Johnnys master guitarist Spencer P Jones has been circulating for a while now, but today full details of Spencer P Jones & The Nothing Butts have surfaced and it's pretty darn exciting.

Partnering up with The Drones' Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin, as well as The Painkillers/Hoodoo Gurus/Scientists drummer James Baker tohelp him flesh out the sound, Jones has written what is being called "an intense collage of [his] tales of love, betrayal and emotional turmoil".

The band's debut record will be released through Shock Records on Friday 9 November.

When speaking with Time Off magazine's Dan Condon last year, Jones revealed initial details of the project, referring to it as 'Jonesy's Drones'.

“Andrew McGee who formerly had Shock Records, he's bought a property up at Nagambie and he's been having lots of his musician friends come up there and record,” Jones begins. “So I started doing a solo record up there that I was playing every instrument on; some of that was earlier songs, songs that have never been released, different versions of songs… and I had 17 tracks there in the can – this has been going for three, nearly four years, though I only tend to go up there for two days at a time so I've actually only spent about six days entirely on these recordings.

“I went up to finish it three months ago and my friend and musical colleague James Baker from the Hoodoo Gurus, The Scientists and the Beasts of Bourbon, he was over from Perth with The Painkillers and he had a few days off so I said 'Why don't you come up to Nagamabie with me?' So he did and we ended up recording a few songs.

"But what happened was Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin from The Drones, they are living about two k's from Andrew's place so they came down and the next thing we had a band. Bass, two guitars and drums. So we started a new project and there are like seven new songs happening there now and we're talking about going on tour. The material is really good. Gareth and I know each other from way back and we're definitely on the same page musically.”

With a line up like this and Jones at the helm, we can't imagine how things could go anything other than brilliantly.
