More Jimmie Allen More Jimmie Allen

The Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter has teamed up with country artist Jimmie Allen on his new solo single, Easy. Tinged with pop, country and R&B sounds, the song is a fresh take on crossover country.

Carter told CMT, “I was working on a song called Easy, and I talked to my producer Vic Martin about it, and I said, ‘maybe Jimmie Allen would like to be a part of it.’ He’s like, ‘that’s my boy like we’re best friends.’ So, he called him up, and sure enough, we got him over FaceTime.”

The inspiration behind the crossover country track came to Carter when he was cooking eggs and making breakfast in the kitchen for his three children and wife, Lauren Kitt. The music video for Easy was filmed around El Dorado Dry Lake in the Las Vegas desert.

The Backstreet Boys – comprised of Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson – formed in 1993. The American band rose to fame with the release of their debut self-titled album in 1996. They released a further eight albums between 1997 and 2019.

The latter, the 2019 release, DNA, debuted at number one, making them the first boy band to top the U.S. album charts in three different decades. Having sold over 100 million records worldwide, they are the best-selling boy band of all time, and one of the world’s best-selling music artists.

In 2017, the Backstreet Boys collaborated with Florida Georgia Line on the chart-topping, platinum-selling hit, God, Your Mama, and Me. Carter has released three solo albums – Now or Never (2002), I’m Taking Off (2011) and All American (2015). He also grew up listening to country music and lived in Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville, for the better part of eight years.

He said, “I’ve been part of the Backstreet Boys for almost 30 years. We’ve had much success. I won several awards, Grammy nominations… you name it, we’ve had it. But, as a solo artist. I haven’t really focused that much on it. I would put out music and kind of just have fun with it. I never had a number one record as a solo artist. It’s fine with me, and it doesn’t bother me. But, when I put this song out – it was just natural. This time around, this was a more of a personal song.”

He adds, “I have been influenced by country music. I’ve been influenced by it since I was a little kid. If people want more of this, then hey, why not.”
