Electronic music festival Rainbow Serpent, based in Lexton, Victoria, has announced they'll be awarding $10,000 community grants to those whose works "in areas of music, arts, health and community service" have a positive effect on the local community.

A festival committee of community leaders and Rainbow Serpent directors will judge the applications, to award grants in the areas of community arts, local musos, environmental initiatives and mental health.

This year, the 19 year old festival found themselves raising funds for the local community through the sales of their festival program — as festival director Tim Harvey notes, “Nearly every person passing through the festival gate from Thursday to Saturday morning bought a festival program knowing the proceeds were going to the local community".

Harvey says, “We feel very much a part of the community now and see grants as a great way to show our support throughout the region.

“Rainbow has a long history of supporting different groups in the Pyrenees Shire and we’re excited to be able to expand that support to deserving groups who are need of additional financial assistance".

Applications can be made for projects on individuals in the Ballarat and Pyranees regions and can be submitted from 1 July until September, with winners of the grants announced on 16 November.
