More The Janoskians More The Janoskians

Melbourne pranksters turned Sony boy band The Janoskians have come under fire for a video in which they pretend to masturbate in public, including over a child in a pram.

Currently touring the world after they cracked the UK charts, the teenage group filmed the video – which depicts members of the band simulating pleasuring themselves in public places in front of bystanders – in Denmark. It sparked the ire of Little Britain comedian Matt Lucas.

“Am I too old to 'get it'?,” he tweeted. “Maybe I am. If so, I'm glad. It's repulsive. It's probably also criminal. It's certainly utterly witless.”

He added, “I hope they see sense and take the clip down. If they don't, I have no doubt they'll be destroyed in the press. I wouldn't normally wish that on anyone but frankly, I think it might be what they need.”

Lucas' tweet was acknowledged by the band and sparked a wave of tweets from their army of social media devotees, as Lucas addressed in a second post earlier today.

“Most of the responses have come from young girls who don't yet know better, and range from 'you faggot' to 'you bald faggot' to 'you fat bald faggot' to 'Get cancer' – and those are just the printable ones,” he said. “Given that @janoskians publicly support anti-bullying, it's a shame that this message is clearly lost on some of their most ardent fans.”

He added that he's willing to catch up with the band, who so far have shown little remorse and called it their favourite video, when he is in Melbourne this August.

“I'll be in Melbourne in August. I'll happily meet up with @janoskians for a cup of tea. Who knows? Maybe together we can create something that uses the best of what they do and moves it forward, because there's clearly an eager audience out there ready for that. Which is great.”

"Sorry if it upset anyone, we'll definitely take it as a learning experience and won't cross this line again," the band have posted in the video's description.

News Limited today ran an opinion piece where they brand the band and their video, “sleazy, offensive and intimidating”.

Last month News Limited hosted a live blog with the band, which appeared to be populated by a lot of those 'young girl' fans. The live chat descended into a string of sexual innuendo comments, which were fuelled by the band.

Comment has been sought from the Melbourne outfit's management for today's Your Daily SPA newsletter.
