Anti-Flag Disband After Potential Allegations Towards Singer Surface

Anti-Flag have broken up.

After making the shock announcement on Patreon, Stereogum reports that a recent episode of the podcast Enough has surfaced, in which a woman alleged an unnamed singer from an East Coast political punk band sexually assaulted her. Fans on Reddit claimed that the accusations pointed towards Anti-Flag singer Justin Sane.

A previous allegation appeared on Tumblr last year, with a user asking, “Justin Sane from Anti-Flag. Am I really the only person this has happened to?” A screenshot is circulating on Twitter, which saw at least two other people reply to the post.

Here’s what the Pennsylvania punks had to say about their disbandment, per Consequence Of Sound:

Anti-Flag has disbanded. the Patreon has been switched into a mode where it will no longer charge the monthly fee. I will begin to process refunds to all patrons in the coming weeks. Once all refunds are processed the Patreon page will also be removed.

Besides the Patreon announcement, Anti-Flag haven’t made any other official statement apart from deleting all their social media accounts. Chris #2 (bass, vocals) also deleted his social media accounts, while the band’s publicist declined to comment when Pitchfork ran a story about their disbandment.

Anti-Flag were touring in Europe when their break-up was suddenly announced, due to open a show for the Dropkick Murphys in Prague on 21 July. They were also slated to support The Bouncing Souls later this year. The Bouncing Souls have since dropped Anti-Flag from the tour.

Anti-Flag released their latest album, Lies They Tell Our Children, in January. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Jon Lundin, Lies They Tell Our Children features a roster of notable guest features, including Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach, Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath, Silverstein’s Shane Told, Bad Religion’s Brian Baker and many more. 

Since forming in 1988, Anti-Flag, with their left-wing political activism and rock and roll tunes, released 13 albums before calling it a day. They are best known for the albums Die For The Government (1996), For Blood And Empire (2006), and 2001’s Underground Network.
