To the delight of Katy Perry and Luke Bryan...
Rach Karma, the singer for the bands Nevermourn and Evil Twin, recently auditioned for American Idol, putting her own spin on the Dio classic, Holy Diver.
While she wasn’t amazing, it was thrilling to hear a heavy metal song on a mainstream reality television series–Karma gave it her best shot, and she was still pretty good. It’s just that no one compares to the sheer power of Ronnie James Dio.
As you can see by the picture above, judge Katy Perry was clearly thrilled by this Week Four audition of season 21. Luke Bryan also looked puzzled (or a touch afraid), while Lionel Richie was the best sport of them all, wearing a grin the entire time.
All three judges declined to send Karma further into the competition, but Richie said, “I have not heard that song in 100 years. I'm a big fan of rock 'n' roll.
"I know this might sound kind of strange, but Rob Zombie happens to be one of my dearest friends, so.”

Last July, Rob Zombie shared the first official trailer for his cinematic reimagining of the much-loved ‘60s sitcom The Munsters.
Zombie’s take on The Munsters appears to pay respect to the family-friendly vibe of the source material, with the trailer looking a lot spookier than the content actually is.
The Munsters synopsis promises “The Strangest Love Story Ever Told”, and the trailer provides the first glimpse at the horror-comedy romance of Lily (Sheri Moon) and Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillips), as well as our first up-close look at Zombie's vision of their 1313 Mockingbird Lane home.
Meanwhile, on Australian Idol, Ben Sheehy, a pharmacy worker and self-taught singer from Brisbane knocked Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love out of the park for his audition. Sadly, he was eliminated from the competition this week after making the top six.
Harry Connick Jr’s response perfectly summed up Ben’s audition: “You’re a complete enigma to me because Ben – let’s be honest, man – seriously, you look like you couldn’t care less about being here. Then you started singing… I dig this dude.”
