Listen to new track 'I've Been Lost For So Long' right now

More American Football More American Football

We thought this might be happening, and now it's confirmed — emo pioneers American Football have announced their second studio full-length album, their first release since 1999's seminal self-titled record.

After a few days of tormenting their fans with cryptic posts, the band made the announcement on their Facebook (via Pitchfork) just after midnight this morning (AEST), posting the album's cover art alongside its release date and a brief run of US shows at the end of this year/in early 2017. As you can see, they're sticking to what they know, calling this eagerly awaited follow-up also just American Football, its only text being the band's now-iconic logo; the cover image was also the inspiration for their most recent teaser video.

Thankfully, we're not just dealing in teasers any more — along with all this information, American Football have unveiled I've Been Lost For So Long, the first track to be taken from the impending record, and by the time frontman Mike Kinsella sings its titular opening words, it's like the past near-two-decades never even happened, and everything ugly in the world just melts away. There are a lot of thirtysomethings crying into their coffees this morning, believe us.

Give the track a long-overdue spin below. American Football will be released on 21 October via Polyvinyl, on vinyl, CD and digital platforms. Pre-orders are available now.
