Acclaimed musician and best-selling author Amanda Palmer has confirmed her return to Melbourne for a three-month residency next year, where she'll set up shop at The Gasometer for six shows.

With an affinity for the Victorian city, having recorded Kickstarter-funded album Theatre Is Evil in 2012 and writing her successful book The Art Of Asking in 2014 there, Palmer says she'll be bringing her son along for the trip and will be writing new material while she's here.

"It’s time for me to re-connect to my audience with nothing but a piano and a microphone, and Australia has always been really fertile ground for me," Palmer explains.

"I love playing to my weird little Melbourne family - we’ve gotten to know each other very well over the years, and it’s nice to go back to playing to crowds of just a few hundred at a time so you can really feel the effect of the songs on people - something gets lost when you’re playing to crowds of 1,500."

Palmer will be playing six shows at The Gasometer starting 12 January and ending 9 March. While she's in town, she'll also be playing a career-defining show in Sydney, a handful of shows at Brisbane Powerhouse, the MONA in Tassie and Melbourne's NGV.
