Adelaide Cabaret Festival Unveils Huge 2019 Program

The festival city delivers once again, with Adelaide Cabaret Festival offering up a massive 2019 program that “celebrates diversity” and “challenges cabaret stereotypes”.

The first program from Artistic Director Julia Zemiro is packed with talent, boating more than 380 artists in 245 performances over 16 days and nights, including 17 Adelaide exclusives, 17 Adelaide premieres and seven national premieres from 7 – 22 June.

One of those exclusives comes from Tripod-member-director Steven Gates, who will debut “witty, rude, politically incorrect” show Suburban Gothic, while Tex Perkins teams up with former Western Bulldogs captain Bob Murphy for Presentation Night and Dami Im makes her cabaret debut with My Life In Songs.

The local love continues, with RocKwiz taking over Thebarton Theatre, Kate Miller-Heidke returning to Adelaide for an exclusive performance after appearing at Eurovision in May, and Lior reinventing some of his most beloved songs alongside Paul Grabowski and Vika and Linda Bull.

Meanwhile, opening night event The House Is Live will feature festival regulars Paul Capsis and Meow Meow alongside Saskwatch, Omar Musa and more, while contemporary cabaret favourite Elaine Crombie (Black Comedy, 8MMM and Kiki & Kitty) will make her festival debut, Iota returns with new show Slap And Tickle, and, as previously confirmed, Megan Mullally will bring her punk/vaudeville act Nancy & Beth to SA.

“From glitzy and shiny through to grit and heartbreak, let what cabaret can be take you away and escape to be seen,” Zemiro said.

“New venues, new faces and an opening night that will surprise! I am so thrilled to launch our program so that I can finally declare the doors are open and welcome audiences in.

“If you love all things shiny, it’s there. If you love to laugh, or reminisce and hear a dark story, it’s there. If you love a big bold stand-alone main event, it’s absolutely there!”
