An album that…made you want to become a musician?

Dream Theater – ‘Train of Thought’

This was the first progressive record I ever heard and was blown away. The unconventional song structure, the chops of all the players and how they were able to keep a balance of not showing off all the time vs. this is what I can do did just the trick for me.

An album that…has had the biggest impact and influence on you?

Unearth – ‘The Oncoming Storm’

This is one of the first modern metal albums I heard. Pretty much it was my first time hearing breakdowns along side fast paced riffing and intensity. Now when I listen to the album every song is memorable and brings back thoughts of good times. If we put this album on in the van, usually a van pit and crowd surfing will occur.

An album that…instantly puts you in a good mood?

Propagandhi -‘Today's Empires Tomorrow's Ashes’

After 5 years of being relatively silent, Propagandhi delivered this epic record that took them to the next level. They had always been one of my favourite bands, but they had better production, better riffing and the songs just hit home.

An album that…is considered a guilty pleasure?

Ke$ha – ‘Animal’

After listening to the first song on this record, Your Love is my drug, Ke$ha says at the end “I love you beard” and I was instantly in love. Upon listening to the rest of the songs on the album, aside from the singles, they sound like they were made in garage band. The underproduction has something honest about it that I like.

An album that…was considered a massive letdown?

Ke$ha-‘Cannibal’

You're a big shot now and have a bunch of great writers and serious production. All honesty is lost.

An album that…you wished you performed on?

Miles Davis – ‘Kind of Blue’

I don't know what I could offer to this record, but it being the best known jazz record of all time, it would nice to have played even a single note just to say you were a part of it.

An album that…you consider underrated?

Mr. Big – ‘Lean into It’

People know Mr. Big for one song, and that was the last track on this record and their rock ballad. The rest of the album has some insane playing with Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan sharing the work and some great songs. It's too bad that the stand out song doesn't represent the band in the least.

An album that…you would like played at your funeral?

Beethoven's Best works.

There's something sombre about Beethoven. His unique life, mixed with the amazing compositions he's offered to this world are the best soundtrack to any funeral.
