I Killed the Prom Queen have announced that longtime bassist Sean Kennedy has left the band.

The toll touring has taken on Kennedy's "physical and especially mental health" has been cited as the reason for his departure. Kennedy has been with the homegrown metalcore outfit since 2003 and appeared on every release since. In his place, the band have recruited ex-Day of Contempt and current In Trenches frontman Benjamin Coyte to the fold.

"So it may seem very menial to alot of people reading this, but this goes out to those who have queried my departure from IKTPQ," says Kennedy in a statement. "I have spent the better part of 10 years touring Australia and the world with my best friends and unfortunately, it has taken its toll on my physical and especially my mental health (through no-one's fault but my own). This has made me realise that I need to step aside for the better of the band and myself.

Thank you to everyone who I've ever met through my travels for all the memories and lasting friendship that i will always hold dear to me. I wish nothing but great things for Jona, Kevin, Jamie, Shane and Ben, I know that IKTPQ will continue to be as amazing as the first time I heard them."

I Killed the Prom Queen are currently gearing up to record a new album - the first since 2006's 'Music for the Recently Deceased' - to be released early 2014. Check out a full statement from the band below.

"IKTPQ regret to announce the departure of long time band member and bass player Sean Kennedy.

Due to personal reasons Sean has decided he can no longer commit to IKTPQ's recording and touring schedule. Sean has been with the band since the release of the split EP with Parkway Drive in 2003 and appeared on every release since including the latest Music For The Recently Deceased album in 2006. Sean is a dear friend of all band members, past and present and we're sad to see him leave. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours, both musically and in general.

Upon Sean's departure we're happy to announce long time close friend Benjamin Coyte becoming a member of IKTPQ. Ben previously sang for Day Of Contempt, one of the best bands to come out of Adelaide and also one of the first major influences on IKTPQ. He currently sings for Kevin's side project In Trenches and has played guitar in both Carpathian and Deez Nuts in the past. Ben also released IKTPQ's first ever release, the Choose To Love, Live, Or Die EP, on his own record label, Final Prayer Records. We welcome Ben with open arms and hope that you will all enjoy this solid lineup and the new album."
