Sydney female fronted pop punk crew Highways have, unfortunately, decided to call it quits and finish up as a band. After the departure of bassist Keanu McCormick and guitarist Nick Laurie, the group have decided "the bad news of the last 3 years has just outweighed the good."

Since forming in 2010, the band have become a prominent part of the local pop punk scene, sharing the stage with the likes of Tonight Alive, Heroes For Hire, and A Loss For Words (US), among a crop of other Australian bands, and even pulling off a couple of national tours along the way.

A full statement from the band can be read below.

"John, Sarah, Nick and I had been a 'unit' since we made Highways in 2010. At least we've heard that from people we've met over the years.
We went from pretty much not knowing each other at all, to being best friends over night. There was a time where we spent most of our free time writing, playing and hanging out together, we grew together and became the people we are today in front of each other.
As we went through the years with Highways, finding a bass player with the same work ethic as us was a struggle and led to a couple of different players who each changed the band into a different dynamic. Unfortunately these changes put a strain on productivity, enthusiasm and how much we enjoyed playing in Highways.
Keanu, after recently joining the band had decided to leave last month due to his lack of enjoyment despite our best efforts to help him feel welcome and a part of our little 4 piece family.

With the departure of Keanu, Nick has also decided that his time with Highways has come to an end. The bad news of the last 3 years (and last 12 months especially) just outweighed the good, and with that us remaining three have decided to close the book on Highways.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, the bands that made us feel so welcome and the promoters who gave us the chance to play. I know I spent some of the best years of my life getting to know all of you and I don't regret any of it for a second.

Kerrod, John and Sarah"
