Sydney heavy-hitters Sienna Skies just wrapped up travelling the country supporting Silverstein on their headline Australian tour. Killyourstereo.com is proud to host the exclusive tour blog for the local band, concluding with part three. Steve here, I am the vocalist from Sienna Skies and here to give the final update of the “This Is How The Wind Shifts Australian Tour” we have been on supporting Silverstein. To reiterate what has already been said, it has been an absolute dream come true to be touring the country with a band who I have looked up to since I started listening to this kind of music, and a key band in being the reason why I pursued the style of music in which I play. To start, we had just wrapped up our show in Newcastle at the Cambridge Hotel and after loading our trailers and saying our goodbyes to the boys we were on our way on an overnight drive up to Brisbane.

Thanks to our crew Jason and Muff we arrived safely on the Gold Coast at about 9 in the morning where we pretty much ran into the ocean on main beach for a wake up swim and then enjoyed breakfast on the beach before heading into Brisbane itself, and safe to say, it was an amazing start to what was going to be an amazing day.

Later on that afternoon we arrived at the Brisbane venue, the Hi-Fi, and whilst loading in and walking around the stage we were once again amazed and feeling so privileged to be on a tour where we were playing such respected venues. Once all the gear was loaded in it was time to play the waiting game, although luckily enough the two supporting bands were friends of ours (and also great bands) so the time passed quite quickly. Sunsets started the show with a great and positive attitude, which set the tone for what was going to be a great night. They were then followed by long time friends of ours, Deadlights, who safe to say absolutely ruled and were awesome to watch, but then, it was out turn.

Here we are, curtain drawn and setting up all of our gear getting ready to play, not having any idea what was on the other side of the curtain. The gear was set, crew was ready as our intro hit and the curtains opened, safe to say we were blown away by what would appear. The boys walked on just before I did and I remember yelling just before I walked on “biggest Brisbane show ever, lets do this!” and just after saying this, Shane from Silverstein patted me on the back and said “Go kill it man!” So I was beyond amped to get started, we started playing and for the entire set we were blown away by the amazing Brisbane crowd and it’s safe to say it was by far our best Brisbane show to date!

We came off stage and once again watched Silverstein absolutely kill it as they had been doing every night, and they put on another amazing show.

Again loaded out, said our goodbyes and got a couple hours sleep before our huge Journey over to Perth the next day. This journey would include almost a total of 12 hours in transit on two flights. We arrived at Brisbane airport at about 7am or so, checked our baggage and whilst walking to our gate bumped into the Silverstein boys for a brief mid airport high 5 and both bands proceeded to our gates. We then boarded our flight and started the journey, which would make it’s first stop in Melbourne. On the first flight most of us were that tired we all were in and out of sleep the entire time. We landed in Melbourne on what seemed to feel like a very quick flight with a stop over of 4 hours in front of us. We hung around, had some breakfast, watched some movies and before we knew it we were boarding our second flight to Perth. This one was longer but a few of the guys still managed to get some sleep whilst the rest watched movies and dined on cheese and crackers and other assorted goodies provided on the plane. We eventually landed at Perth airport and loaded our van and headed straight to the venue, The Amplifier Bar in Perth, another incredible venue.

We loaded in, caught up with the Silverstein guys and then before we knew it doors were open and the show was starting. Bunbury based MakeBelieveMe opened up followed by friends of ours Still Water Claims who also killed it, then it was time for us to play.

The room was full, the gear was set and it was time to play and Perth showed us what they could do with a very fun show and a good way to end the tour for us. Once we finished, Silverstein were up and somehow the room was even more full. As I did pretty much every night, I watched Silverstein from side of stage and they were absolutely killing it as always. Mid set rolls around and they begin one of my favourite songs ever, “Smashed into Pieces” and as I did every night, I sang every word. Bill, Silverstein’s bass player then invited me onto the stage to sing the last chorus of the song, and I was there for the brief time fronting the band as Shane had stage dived and was crowd surfing like a mad man and I finished the song with the guys on vocals and safe to say, this was an absolute dream come true! Before walking off the stage I hugged every member and there is a photo of me whilst hugging Shane, which I will cherish forever!

The boys wrapped up their set and blew everyone away as always and it was a great night, whilst selling merch for our band after they played while people were leaving the venue and Shane and the boys were being legends getting photos and signing things for fans like they did every night, the time was drawing that we dreaded the past week, we had to say goodbye.

The venue cleared everyone out and we all hung around the car park hanging out and saying goodbye to each other about 20 times and wrapped up with an amazing tour photo just before the Silverstein van drove away down the driveway of Amps and it set in, the tour was over. This was a sad time but we were beyond stoked with the way everything had happened on the tour.

We woke up the next day and we had two more shows in which we were headlining before we were leaving to head home and the first one was an All Ages show at the extremely reputable YMCA HQ in Leederville Perth and it was a venue we had played a few times before and loved playing there.

It was a long bill with many bands but once we played the crowd were great for a Tuesday night and still gave us all their energy and support right till the last note, and also helped us in making it our most successful Perth All Ages show EVER!

The next night we were back at the Amplifier Bar for the club Academy. We had heard a lot about this club and were very excited to be there, and after leaving for food and coming back, we noticed the line and we were blown away. The line was up the street and around the corner to get into this club so we were very excited to play. The support bands warmed up the crowd with some killer sets (Strom the Shore and Temporal) and it was our time.

Just before we started to play we were told the club had officially sold out and they were turning people away at the door so we were psyched! We then hit the intro and from the first note the crowd were moving around and having a good time. Song after song, more people moved, more energy was given and by the end of the set we were over the moon. Another great show and it took the title of our best Perth show ever!

The night wrapped up amazingly, we have woken up today (the next day) and soon it will be time to fly home. We have been so privileged to be apart of such a great tour and it has been incredible in every single way possible. A huge thank you to anyone who came to any of the shows and a huge shout out to Destroy All Lines and of course Silverstein for having us on the tour. It has been an incredible experience.
