Death Grips dropped by label

Experimental Californian hip-hop collective Death Grips have been dropped by Epic Records following ongoing conflict between the band and label.

Tension between the two began last month when Death Grips deliberately leaked their sophomore album, No Love Deep Web, after a disagreement with Epic regarding its release date. The band then claimed their website, thirdworlds.net, was shut down by the label.

Responding to allegations the leak was a publicity stunt, Death Grips published confidential email exchanges between the band and label on Facebook and Twitter (as noted here), further rubbing salt into Epic’s wounds by tagging the photos with, "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA NOW FUCK OFF" and "treat bitch".

The latest instalment in this ongoing saga should come as little surprise - Epic have now dropped Death Grips from the label.

Epic released the following statement regarding the decision:

“Epic Records is a music first company that breaks new artists. That is our mission and our mandate. Unfortunately, when marketing and publicity stunts trump the actual music, we must remind ourselves of our core values. To that end, effective immediately, we are working to dissolve our relationship with Death Grips. We wish them well”.

While a physical release of No Love Deep Web is looking very unlikely at this stage, the album is still available for streaming via Soundcloud.
