Green Day begin recording new album

Green Day have announced that they have began recording their new album.

The band announced the commencement of the recording through a tweet made by the band's front man Billie Joe Armstrong, with Armstrong posting:

"Happy Valantine's day! Officially started recording the new record today. It's FUCK TIME!"

The new album will be the band's ninth studio album, and is expected to be released in late 2012.
