Pennsylvanian metalcore outfit August Burns Red have been quoted by a policeman while on trial for his alleged shooting of a gunman during a siege.


The unnamed British police officer, who was subsequently removed from firearms duty, reportedly named several song titles whilst facing the court on charges of killing gunman Mark Saunders in 2008. In addition to quoting "Blinding Light" by August Burns Red, the man also mentioned Alice Cooper's "Enough's Enough", "Any Other Way" by the Backstreet Boys, Jay-Z's "People Talking" and "Italian Job; Fuck My Old Boots" by The Membranes.

London's metropolitan police have issued a statement saying: “A matter was brought to our attention during the Mark Saunders inquest in relation to evidence given by a firearms officer. As a result the matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints. The Met takes this matter extremely seriously as we expect the highest standards of all of our staff.”


The officer could face the possibility of a criminal investigation for contempt of court – which carries a maximum two-year jail sentence – if the IPCC decides there is enough evidence for the Crown Prosecution Service to press charges.
