The production of a film based around the life of writer Lewis Carroll has reportedly been scrapped after the release of its controversial trailer.

The feature film "Phantasmagoria: The Visions Of Lewis Carroll" would have seen the "God of Fuck" Marilyn Manson's directorial debut, however after the release of its confronting trailer sources have confirmed that the film's production has been cut off. The UK's Daily Mail was told that "the trailer caused such a backlash that a decision was made to close down the project."

Allegedly set to star the actress Tilda Swinton and model Lily Cole, the film was written by Manson in conjunction with producer Geoffrey Cox. In 2006 Manson said of the script that it dealt with "the period in [Carroll's] life where there was a real split. It's a very Jekyll-and-Hyde sort of story. It's based on his diaries, and it's all very factual."
