Trivium drummer fired over the phone

Former Trivium drummer Travis Smith was told of his termination from the band over the phone vocalist Matt Heafy states.

Smith was recently fired from the band with former drum tech Nick Augusto announced as his replacement.

Trivium vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy had the following to say to AOL’s Noisecreep. “We were coming to the point where the band was — not necessarily dissolving — but dissolving in creativity and maybe in live fire and energy, so we had to make a change for the positive,” Heafy told Noisecreep.

He also added about the circumstances of the departure: “We told [Travis] over the phone [that we were continuing with Augusto] and it was hard for everyone involved.”

Trivium are playing this year's Soundwave festival.
