2008 has been a wild ride for The Getaway Plan. Since the release of their debut album ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ and it’s breakthrough hit single ‘Where The City Meets The Sea’, these four young Melbourne boys have sold out two national tours, become one of the most played Australian acts on radio and TV, and made themselves a household name with their unique brand of alternative rock. In November they will head out on their biggest headline tour yet in support of their latest single ‘Shadows’.
After debuting at #14 in the ARIA Charts, and having a Feature Album on Triple J, the early signs were that ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ was going to make The Getaway Plan one of 2008’s great Australian success stories. But no one could have predicted the attention the band would draw upon the release of the album’s second single ‘Where The City Meets The Sea’. The track has been on high rotation at Nova and Triple J, with it’s video being in the most played on Channel V for months. It has since crossed over to Triple M and the Fox Network’s Hot 30 countdown, and was performed live on Rove in late July to an overwhelming response. The ‘Where The City Meets The Sea’ tour saw the band sell out close to 25 dates across the country, solidifying the band’s growing fanbase with one of the most elaborate local rock shows of the year.
But it’s only the beginning for The Getaway Plan, who have just finished the epic video clip for their third single, Shadows. The clip matches the intensity of perhaps the bands most well orchestrated track, setting them in an end-of-the-world scenario when they escape Melbourne as it burns to the ground. The clip and single will be at radio late September, while the official retail release of the single will be November 8, digitally and as a limited edition CD with two new B-Sides.
To launch the new single, The Getaway Plan will be setting out on ‘The Shadows Tour’, the band’s first concert tour – taking in the biggest rooms yet with a full production set. Along for the ride will be the fast rising Melbourne three piece Calling All Cars, fresh from their national tour with Birds of Tokyo and the release of their acclaimed EP, ‘Animal’ in August. They are coming off a huge 12 months that has seen them tour the country consistently, opening them up to a fast growing fanbase and ever increasing attention from radio. Opening all shows will be Brisbane boys A Year to Remember, who recently signed to Boomtown Records to release their debut ‘Targets’ EP.
The Getaway Plan have also been announced to play at Brisbane’s Sounds Of Spring Festival in October, Canberra’s Trackside Festival in November, Sydney’s Homebake Festival in December and Phillip Island’s Pyramid Rock Festival over New Years.
The Shadows Tour will kick off in November, taking in capital cities with the biggest sized rooms the band has taken on yet. Don’t miss out.
