Slowly Slowly are in a happier, more positive mental state with new track, 'Creature Of Habit Pt. 2.'

It was quite astonishing to me how Slowly Slowly went from releasing such an endearing and authentic record like 'St. Leonards' (2018) to then dropping the completely forgettable single, 'Jellyfish.' Yet the rising Melbourne band is back on track now with the catchy emo/pop-punk jam that 'Creature Of Habit Pt.2,' which pumps hefty doses of Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday blood through its veins. It all sounds like a warm, sunny afternoon, and I'm not ashamed to say that I've had this banger on repeat since it landed this morning.

When you strip back all of Ben Stewart's charming vocals, the catchy guitar melodies, and the songs burning 2000's alt-rock energy, the vivid lyricism is actually a scathing finger-point towards the mentality of what this music scene values in terms of creativity; trying to knock down that age-old bullshit sentiment that an artist must be lonely, tired and depressed in order for them to make good art. Yet this song shares the opposite of that dangerous romanticism: that you can be happy and at peace and still write great music. This is real recognizing real without having to phone it in and put on an act to make it all work. Both Ben and Slowly Slowly look and sound like they're in a more positive place as a band and that's so wholesome to see.

It's the kind of honesty that myself and so many others have come to expect from the Aussie band. For Slowly Slowly's new single is genuine, fun and hooky, and that's when this band is at their very best. It's all like a love letter to being a better, happier person who is primed to create, feeling proud about what they've achieved and where they're going. And at this stage, Slowly Slowly have done a lot, and there's going to be a hell of a lot more success to come in 2019.
