We Set Sail embark towards new album with 'Ordinary'.

We Set Sail have this brilliant “post-rock but what if also emo” sound to them, something that shines through on all of their releases. (They're also a pretty good live band too.) It's a sound that's informed by older artists like Mineral and Jets To Brazil but also early Balance & Composure and The Hotelier; lush indie-rock, noisy but melodic post-rock subtleties, and mid-west emo moments. Which is also true of the band's new single, 'Ordinary'.

Now in their 11th year together, We Set Sail are setting their sights on an upcoming third record - from which 'Ordinary' is culled - and is a TBA follow-up to 2016's solid 'Feel Nothing' LP. A new album that should, hopefully, drop sometime in 2019.

Recorded at the band's own studio space - which looks like a half-shed, half-share-house hybrid - by mixer James Jackson and mastered by Ben Feggans, 'Ordinary' is more We Set Sail for your ears. The band's moody, lethargic but dynamic and guitar-driven sound is ripe for the taking here; their distorted yet melodic emo-punk sounds are all over this thing! Throw in their love of instrumental passages, some added screams and vocal harmonies, spacious undertones, and some pedal magic, and I'm sure as shit not complaining about it. Simply ordinary in quality, this We Set Sail cut is not.

As for the track's video, it's all made up of phone footage from the song's writing sessions. While there's some musical work going on, it mostly looks like them kicking a footy around, playing downball, playing their Switch, and making silly faces at any camera pointed in their direction.
