Newton's Third Law of Motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. It's this idea of a push and pull motion, of a limit being reached between two opposing forces, that's at the core of the bitter and highly pissed-off 'Third Law', the latest single from Melbourne's Drown This City.

The raging metalcore track premiered last night via Triple J Unearthed and lyrically borrows from this idea of Newton's Third Law to summarize past interpersonal dramas. Hell, in the track's first verse alone, vocalist Alexandra Reade screams "Check your physics I'm just meeting you half way", to even the frontwoman outrighting spitting that, "For every action there's an equal and opposite reaction" right after the first chorus hits.

To paraphrase a loveable drug addict from a revered television series: "Yeah, science bitch!'

For 'Third Law', Drown This City worked with a handful of their fellow Melbourne peers by co-writing the song with Gravemind guitarist Damon Bredin and having produced, tracked and engineered by Alpha Wolf's Scottie Simpson. When placed next to their past works, this is a heavier, more riff-focused and more aggressive track, one that's even a little more complex in composition too than previously seen from the local outfit. Along with it featuring a heavier vocal presence from bassist and backing vocalist Matt Bean and just being larger in size and scope too, 'Third Law' still fits nicely into the group's clean and hard-hitting synthy metalcore sound.

This is arguably the best thing the local quartet have put together yet, so if you're new to Drown This City, this would be the best station to board their proverbial train at.
