Fuck yes: I, Valiance are back in the game!

After a fair amount of mystery and silence over the past year and a half, bar the removal of past vocalists and the release of their wicked 'The Blood Beneath My Nails' single, Melbourne's craziest heavy outfit are now going to be taking 2018 by the balls. Fronted again by one of the best heavy vocalists in extreme music - the always impressive Mark Poida (don't fret Aversions Crown fans, he's still be fronting that band as well) - I, Valiance are gearing up for their full rebirth with the recent release of their bat-shit heavy and spasmodic new single, 'I Am Free/Three Daggers'.

Supposedly written about 'something' that Poida once encountered in a nightmare of his ("I see it in the corner watching me tonight/Drooling it's venom, Whispering hatred, I'm paralyzed/It speaks to me."), this killer new track encompasses all of the band's most extreme and sinister musical flavours. From the song's slick and explosive production, the distorted and banging electronic finale, the chunky low-tuned riffs and dissonant chords, the bouncy metalcore moments and solid deathcore elements, to the undercurrent of evil ambience trickling just below the surface and the imposingly brutal vocals of their talented frontman; I, Valiance have made the long wait more than worth it. While they've given eager fans more of what they loved and expected, they've also kept listeners on their toes too with a rather surprising but nonetheless kickass rapped/nu-metal section towards the end of the track too. While it does come out of left field, it proves that the group haven't lost any of their weirdness, edge nor any of their unpredictability too. Which is more or less one of their defining traits I'd argue.

After five years of being tinkered away at within the shop, I, Valiance are also (finally) releasing their self-titled debut album this year, which was mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc at Prenc Audio. As per the group's "333" social media teasers of late, this debut full-length record will be dropping in three different parts over the course of 2018, totalling 70-minutes all up come the album's full release. The first part of said release will actually be dropping tomorrow - Friday, March 2nd - and arrives just in time for their Melbourne headliner at The Bendigo Hotel this Saturday night with Dregg and Gravemind. And considering just how bloody good oldies like 'The Black Sun' and how solid 2015's 'The Reject Of Humanity' EP both were, I think we'll be looking at something very special with this forthcoming debut record.

Directed by Gravemind's Dylan Gillies-Parsons and Ed Reiss, check out the goofiest and weirdest music video you'll see this side of a Dregg film clip for 'I Am Free/Three Daggers' below. Shit's wild!
