This new record from The Armed will be fucking gnarly.
One of Detroit’s most vicious hardcore/experimental collectives around, The Armed, have just announced the details for their second LP, ‘Only Love‘, which is due out April 27th via No Rest Until Ruin in America and Throatruiner in Europe. (As per usual from the band, the album will be released for free on digital fronts with physical vinyl pre-orders coming soon). And the always-maniacal The Armed have already dropped the first taste of it, the heavy, brutal, and chaotically beautiful opening song, ‘Witness‘.
For those who don’t know, the band’s sound is this intensive mixture of punk, metallic hardcore, pop, progressive music and really, anything else that has held any influence over them; whether currently or in their respective youth. And you should really listen/watch the music video for the album’s first track, ‘Witness‘ below. This shit is bloody wild!
Three years after from The Armed’s hectic debut LP, the much-lauded ‘Untitled‘, ‘Only Love‘ is set to be a nonlinear progression as they continue to demonstrate that no one will never know what to fully expect from them until the record is in the listener’s hands.
The band returned to GodCity Studio to work with the usual suspect, Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou, as an executive producer for the release. Continuing the U.S. group’s signature process of collaborating with different drummers for all of their various releases, this time around The Armed recruited Ballou’s friend and bandmate, Converge drummer Ben Koller. This partnership supposedly led to an entirely new creative approach for the record says the band, one which allowed them to achieve “their most wildly innovative work to date”.
I guess we’ll find out in April if that actually rings true, but something tells me it most definitely will.
