Here’s Northlane Covering Fatboy Slim Because Why The Fuck Not?

Northlane rule of thumb: eat, sleep, djent, repeat.

In a world in which We Butter The Bread With Butter covered ‘Man’s Not Hot’, this was most likely the next step for us all: Northlane offering their own spin on Fatboy Slim’s 2013 smash-hit ‘Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat’ for the upcoming cover EP, ‘Fatboy Slim VS Australia'.

This new covers EP will be released on January 19th and sees seven Australian acts (Northlane included) face off on seven iconic Fatboy Slim tunes. In the second release to come from 'Fatboy Slim VS Australia', Northlane have remade ‘Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat’ in their own djenty fashion. In the first single to come from the 2017 ARIA award-winning Sydney outfit, they've mashed up their far heavier metalcore sound with some elements of the original club hit still being present. Paying silly but loving homage to the classic dance track, Northlane have kept the structure of the original tune fully intact whilst adding in Marcus Bridge's vocals and low-tuned guitar chugs, the band then bounce between electronica and metal sections throughout. To say that this is a weird contrast to the song's lyrics - especially in the chorus - is a gross understatement.

In a statement, Northlane admitted that “Reinterpreting this song and adding a little bit of the Northlane sound into it was a challenge for us and we hope that we’ve done it justice. We believe that the metal and electronic genres share many similarities and we’re thrilled we got the opportunity to contribute to this release!"

Now, metal and electronica is actually a pretty obvious mix of styles of this century, with Northlane also adding that “Fatboy Slim is an iconic name in electronic music and for many of us, our first introduction to techno. This in turn has lead us down a rabbit hole of new genres and inspired us to take risks with our music."

So, I think it's safe to say that the next Northlane record will be called 'Pingas' where Bridge will just wax lyrical about taking drugs for a good half hour or so and- oh, wait.
