I was a very big fan of Earth Caller's debut album, 'Degenerate' (2015) - it was one of my fave Aussie releases of that year - and I've been itching to see what the Josh Collard Experience would deliver next. Turns out, I only have to wait about a month and a half to properly find out!

Now arriving January 19th, 2018, Earth Caller's second LP, entitled 'Crystal Death', was produced, mixed and mastered by producer Beau McKee at Oaklands Recording Studios with assistant engineering by Kris Samos (So, basically, Mr McKee and Samos did everything except perform the actual songs).

In a statement, frontman Josh Collard said that:

“Lyrically this album is far more personal and emotional. Sonically it’s heavier, faster and more melodic. The band has never been more proud of a body of work than we are of this album and judging by the overwhelmingly positive response we’ve already received when we perform new material live – it appears the fans are into too!

For me – making music has always been and always will be about helping people and while the mission remains the same, my thoughts on how I’d like to achieve that has definitely evolved. As have I.”

Collard also explains the backstory that drove the record's insanely catchy and killer first single, 'Fall' (which you can stream below), he opens up, saying:

“This song is about a bit of a messy break up I had and the process of how it came to unfold. I was a bit of a mess myself at the time and more or less realised that we were both guilty of similar things which is why Sophie Jest (who features on the track and in the videoclip) sings the chorus back at me in the bridge.

Since the release of Degenerate I’ve gone through so much and experienced so many new things and from that I’ve grown. I’ve had a pretty chequered past, I won’t deny that.

All I’d known was fighting. Literally fighting because of the choices I’d made for my life, then after that it was fighting my way out of depression, then it was facing and fighting my demons. Then eventually it was fighting to make my dream a reality. Then EC started popping, it was the first truly good thing that I’d done in years but because I’d been fighting for so long I couldn’t tell that the fight was over. I have many regrets.

Crystal Death is a story about the eternal war within ourselves. It’s light for the dark. Hope for the hopeless. I’m very proud of what we’ve made and my hope is that our fans will get as much out of listening to it as I got out of making it.”

In some other big news for the Melbourne band, Earth Caller have signed up with Entertainment One (which is also home to peeps such as Snoop Dogg, The Game, Zakk Wylde, and Unearth). And with this being their first release on that major label, 2018 looks to be a very big year for the Earth Caller dogs. Our fingers are crossed that it doesn't go tits up for them!
