The other week I received a nice little email from Sydney indie-rockers, Speakeasy, saying: "Hi, we like your work at Kill Your Stereo and enjoyed the write up on our friends in Blue Velvet so we've decided to include you in an early release of our new single, "Dream Boy"."

Well, a little bit of flattery sometimes does go far so I checked out this pre-release stream of the group's newest song in question and I fell in love with it very quickly. Better yet, now you can too as the band officially dropped 'Dream Boy' just the other day; supposedly one of three new singles to come from the band in 2018.

Once again recorded and mixed by Fletcher Matthews and then mastered by Jay Maas, this new tune from these inner west Sydney lads is an intimate, sincere but also rather miserable track; one that's filled with warm, pretty guitar chords, gloomy vocal melodies, plenty of self-deprecating lyrics ("I'm such a prick, I say what I think, I hate what I am, but I love what you do to me") and a whole lotta heart as well. It's also a tighter, cleaner-sounding and all-around stronger step up from their 2016 single, 'Waste' and is a wonderful follow-on from the themes and sounds of their 'In View' EP, which dropped earlier this year.

Plus, the addition of feature vocalist Antonia Susan (from Antonia & The Lazy Susans) to the band's sound here is a stellar musical inclusion here. As are Susan's lovely call and response vocals with vocalist Matt van Herten in the song's verses and how her voice compliments so well with the soothing croons in the track's sublime choruses too.

Take an emotional deep dive with Speakeasy's short but incredibly sweet 'Dream Boy' if you fuck hard with bands like CREO, Slowly Slowly, Introvert, and Ceres.
