Everything you need to know.

Yes yes, as we all know by now, Download Festival's Australian debut in 2018 was a sure thing months ago. However, just this morning, the full details for the 2018 event have been fully revealed. Well, bar the actual lineup of course. They just couldn't give us it all at the same goddamn time, could they?

Anyway, in association with Live Nation, Unified and Secret Sounds, Download Festival Australia AKA Music Feeds' main source of traffic for the past few weeks will be taking place in Melbourne over one day: Saturday, March 24th. And much like Big Day Out and Soundwave 2013 and 2014, it'll all be going down at Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse, making for a total capacity of 25,000 punters. Of course, there's bound to be some sideshows/tours happening in March around the event so I wouldn't stress too hard if you miss out on tickets. However, no word on the ticket prices have been dropped just yet, but expect those to be announced soon.

There will be the usual festival set-up of your bars, big business food stalls and market areas, with a total of four stages running all day. As for the bands, we know how many there'll be - 29 overall. Also, with the bands, a third of the Download Festival Australia lineup will be local artists (yes, most likely the same kinds of local artists that you and I already see every 12-18 months but hey, whatever works).

Currently, 2018 will only host one Download Festival show on Aussie shores, with future plans for dates in other states to happen in the following years if things don't go tits up that is. The main goal here for the promoters is to grow our nation's version to eventually be much more in line with the UK's almighty festival, which will hopefully come to properly fill the gaping hole in the Australian festival market. Unify Gathering is great and all, and something much smaller like Invasion Fest helps to fill the local all-age gap, but us heavy music fans are in dire need of something far bigger.

So now all we need to do is hope that the actual lineup isn't shit. Speaking of which, the full lineup announcement drops on Thursday, November 9th next week, but the cat's more or less out of the bag that Korn and Limp Bizkit will be on the bill. (That probably won't stop more of those awfully fake posters floating around for a while longer, though). Expect some of the usual "festival" bands, some solid but frequently touring Aussie groups and the odd surprise or two.

November 9th - save the date people!
