A victory for Being As An Ocean.

A victory for Being As An Ocean.

Back in mid-June, I covered how Being As An Ocean's new record, 'Waiting For Morning To Come’, had laid completely silent in both PR and marketing senses, and how the band had suddenly asked fans to "Please direct all tweets about release date to ", adding that "they have the finished album" on the week of the album's originally scheduled release.

Of course, that release never arrived and the implication from the band's post being that something had really gone tits-up between them and Equal Vision Records and that despite the album supposedly being finished and ready to go, it was being held back for whatever reason. Since then, there's been radio silence from either camp on what was happening.

Until yesterday.

In the embedded tweet found below, Being As An Ocean announced that they themselves had bought out their contract with Equal Vision (the full amount was not disclosed) and they will now act as an independent band moving forward. Also on the up side, the group will officially release a new song, 'Thorns' come this Friday, with another track, 'Black And Blue', also coming in the following week. Which is great news and all, yet there has been zero discussion on when exactly 'Waiting For Morning To Come' will arrive as a full-length piece.

While I don't think that the record will be held in limbo much longer and while I'm sure it will release sometime this year, I am very curious to know just what the actual fuck happened between the band and Equal Vision. It's a little funny to me as that label isn't known for their industry shadiness and behind-the-scenes bullshit (*cough Victory Records cough*) and as far as I am personally aware, Being As An Ocean don't seem like they'd purposefully create any business or legal issues nor do they have any contentious BS surrounding their practices. Well, bar a few rumors (key word there ) that I've heard that the group actually play up the Christian element of their music and image, but whatever, they wouldn't be the first or last band to do that.

Maybe one day we will all know what went down here between the band and Equal Vision, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that info coming anytime soon. As for right now, I'm just very glad that Being As An Ocean can move forwards and that 'Waiting For Morning To Come' will eventually see the light of day!
