Oh dear.

Oh dear.

Last week, the tough-guy, inked up American hardcore band that was and sadly still is Lionheart, picked up their discarded towel after throwing it in over a year ago. And all I could think upon hearing such news was "Oh no".

For me, whenever I put on a Lionheart song, I always felt there was a number of simply better hardcore bands that I could be listening to instead. Plus, this band's releases were just so inconsistent too!

Because for every decent, emotionally-tinged real world song - like 'Rest In Power', 'Pain' and 'Love Don't Live Here', as just three examples - or for every noble, give-back-to-the-community tracks like 'LHHC', this macho group also had these cringy, fuck-the-haters songs like 'Hail Mary' and 'Keep Talkin''. That's not even counting the plenty of dumb call out songs they churned out like 'RAT' and their hit or miss lyrics too  Now, while their style of groovy hardcore wasn't (and still isn't) anything new by a long a shot, their music did admittedly provide some decent breakdowns, pit calls and riffs, but even so, Lionheart is just a less subtle, poor man's version of Terror. And now they're back in the game.

The band are now touring again and while they won't be a full-time band ever again due to their respective family and work loads, they do apparently plan to release new music in the future. So who knows, maybe this new chapter of Lionheart will yield their best work yet and make me eat all of my words right up?

I won't hold my breath, though.

Lionheart's last record, 'Love Don't Live Here', was released last year, and if you would like to partake in such mediocrity, you can stream the LP over here
