New Converge! This is not a drill!
Two of my personal favourite Converge songs in the post ‘Jane Doe‘ and ‘You Fail Me‘ eras of their career (excluding ‘Eagles Become Vultures‘, of course) are ‘Dark Horse‘ and ‘Aimless Arrow‘ respectively. Considering my love for those songs, it came as no real surprise to me that I instantly loved the band’s vicious new single, ‘I Can Tell You About Pain‘.
The unbridled emotion and seething anger of ‘I Can Tell You About Pain‘ is actually just one-half of the coin for Converge’s new two-track 7″ EP/digital release – ‘I Can Tell You About Pain b/w Eve‘ – with the second half being the seven and a half minute snowballing epic, ‘Eve‘; which sees the band push their eerie melodic vocal and guitar tendencies to incredible, unsettling new levels. Essentially, this new pair show just how powerful each and every facet of Converge’s sound can truly be. From Jacob Bannon’s caustic vocal delivery, Kurt Ballou’s ominous and menacing riffs, and Ben Koeller’s air-tight, blood-pumping drumming.
‘I Can Tell You About Pain b/w Eve‘ marks the band’s first new music since their rightfully lauded 2012 record, ‘All We Love We Leave Behind‘ and will help bide over countless fans – myself included – before a mighty new full-length arrives later this year. Which I cannot fucking wait for, honestly!
The nightmarish music video for ‘I Can Tell You About Pain‘ can be watched below. Directed by Tony Wolski, the stunningly shot and tightly edited clip perfectly matches that of the song’s intense, frenetic energy, all with a narrative that follows deep and personal love loss. Be sure to stream ‘Eve‘ here as well!
Converge’s new 7-inch is out now via Epitaph Records and Deathwish Inc. and can be purchased online. Get it, it’s great!
