Combining all the best elements of punk rock, grunge and garage-rock, ‘Breaking Up This Time’ is like Sonic YouthThe DistillersBest Coast and DZ Deathrays all merged into one noisy whole. From the gruff yet pained vocals, the crunchy guitars, the punchy drumming, the chest churning bass, and an aesthetic that fits the previous decade of punk rock and Tony Hawk video game soundtracks near-perfectly.

Of the song's lyrics and origins, frontwoman Sare Jackie described its inspiration and meaning in a previous PR statement, saying that:

“Breaking Up This Time describes being in an on-off relationship and the ambiguity of not knowing where you stand. The song is sung from my point of view where I'm the one that's being left, and I'm pleading with them to stay, even though I know deep down it's not the right thing for me. It's a situation that heaps of people find themselves in, so I wanted to write a song about that struggle. Everyone's afraid of being left alone.”

Whispering Jackie’s 2016 debut EP, ‘Social Isolation’, was received quite warmly by the Australian punk rock community - especially its main single, ‘Casino Mate'. Recorded and mixed by Daniel Antix (Gay Paris, Sound of Seasons) in the trio's home city's Def Wolf Studios, ‘Breaking Up This Time’ is the lead track culled from the forthcoming second EP For The Moment' which is due out later this year and is already penned to get such another such solid reaction.
