Look, I hate myself for that awful pun in this article's title. You know, more so than I usually hate myself.

The local hype train chugged onwards for Adelaide's Reactions recently, with the band releasing yet another meaty, solid slab of hardcore in the form of new single, 'Wrong Direction'.

Much like their prior material, 'Wrong Direction' sees the South Australian metallic hardcore crew bringing all the usual tough-guy riffs, a guitar solo for good measure, and the expected moshpit activating instrumentals and breakdowns. However, there's an added twist to this new track that changes up their mosh game; a clean sung chorus that makes for what is easily one of the catchiest and most genuinely melodic moments in Reactions entire catalogue.

And honestly... it fucking works!

While 'Wrong Direction' sees Reactions sounding more akin to melodically-inclined bands like Stick To Your Guns or fellow SA outfit Hindsight (sans all the clean guitars) rather than their peers in Staunch or Crowned Kings, these choruses and lighter moments don't feel shoehorned in. A song like this also makes me very hopeful that the quintet has produced more melodic moments and more interesting instrumental passages for their upcoming LP to help break up the near-endless hardcore flow. As while I did quite enjoy their 2015 outing, 'Soul Witness', the rather one-note and generic nature of that record is indeed one of its main drawbacks in retrospect.

Speaking of the band's next record, go and make a mental note that their hot new album, 'March Of Dissolution', drops on Friday, June 30th via Resist Records and you can pre-order it here. I know that I'm much keener on it since hearing 'Wrong Direction'.

In case you missed it, go have a gander at their previous single, 'Heavy Chains'. Lest thee be a poser forever!

Reactions are hitting the road with in July Adelaide sad boys Sleep Talk and Newcastle's Ill Natured. Check out the dates below and the event page here
