Deez Nuts. In your mouth. This April.

Deez Nuts have for many years, copped a lot of flak. Now, while I do think that some of that was warranted, the band have really been going from strength to strength ever since 2013's solid effort, 'Bout It', which they well and truly left for dead with their 2015's killer 'Word Is Bond' - a record I still jam to this day.

But like any band signed to big labels, the bi-yearly clockwork-like release schedule must be upheld. So next month, the Australian hardcore act will be releasing their fifth full-length album, 'Binge & Purgatory'.

At the start of the February, the band unleashed the album's dual title track - 'Binge' and 'Purgatory'. When I first sussed out that song, the first 50 seconds made me think that the band we're going in a far more melodic direction (this is the 'Binge'.) But before I could even blink, the surging guitar chugs, punchy drumming, gang vocals, and upfront rap vocals swung out (this is 'Purgatory'). And man, that shit hit hard! Deez Nuts haven't at all gone soft on us just yet.

Comeback Kid's Andrew Neufeld co-produced the album with the band, and the record was engineered by Shane Frisby (The Ghost Inside, Bury Your Dead) and was mixed and mastered by Pete Rutcho (Parkway Drive, The Ghost Inside). What I take from that is that this new Deez Nuts album, in terms of its sonic quality, will sound like the previous two records. And that's fine by me!

According to frontman JJ Peters, 'Binge & Purgatory was actually written in and inspired by The Big Apple, AKA New York City, saying in a press release that “Binge & Purgatory is heavier and more melodic, but also more concise and deliberate. We need to be lifted to be inspired and surrounded by friends. We work best in a party environment. I think it translates to the songs."

He also added in the aforementioned press release that "Binge & Purgatory is the most well-written body of work we have to date.” Of course, Every second band says that their new shit is their best, so we'll find out come April 7th whether Peters words hold true or not.

Now, just like many of their peers, this would not be a Deez Nuts album unless the band had a couple of their good mates guesting on it. In this new album's case, both Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta and Terror's Scott Vogel will be lending their vocals to Deez Nuts fifth outing.
