Last Friday night at Fitzroy’s Workers Club, Chasing Ghosts proved that ‘I Am Jimmy Kyle‘ is just as good when played live as it is on the actual album. Seriously, goddamn was this set solid!
Chasing Ghosts performed the best cuts from their latest and greatest record such as ‘Betsy’, ‘Cursed & Hopeless’, ‘We Are The Rats’ and ‘Jane Doe’. You also had the fact that Jimmy Kyle was sounding terrific – both by himself and his guitar as well as with a full lineup behind him – and then you guest appearances from his good friends in Melbourne singer Millie Tizzard and Earth Caller’s Josh Collard. Simply put, there was a lot of love in the room that late Friday night in Melbourne and it was felt by all in attendance.
Then you had Sydney’s The Dead Love as the main tour support, whose music is most definitely one for 90’s grunge fans and this trio is the spitting image of Nirvana and early Silverchair with not only their aesthetic but also their actual music. Plus, there were some solid local supports from the likes of rock heartaches Sweet Gold and the sweet dance moves of their singer Mikey T, as well as the noisy and loud A Gazillion Angry Mexicans – a gazillion, for fuck’s sake – who may just have the best band name ever!
Anyway – enough chit-chat. Check out our photo gallery (shot by James Dominko) from the night below.
