Oh, Perspectives, how I have missed you.

Oh, Perspectives, how I have missed you.

Last year, I ran into Perspectives guitarist, Eddie Deal while at the Melbourne In Hearts Wake/Northlane show, where he told me that their next album would be more or less done when he and the band could find the time. Which, honestly, bummed me out quite a bit, as I've always enjoyed what this Sydney quintet put out - whether it was their 2013 single, 'All The Lies You Spoke' or their 2014 two-track, 'I Miss You/I Love You', or even their first EP and older demos.

But now, finally, after somewhat fading away from the public eye and local music scene, the band are back with a new single, 'For Those Who Care' as well as the announcement of their new album - 'Stay For Those Who Care' - which is out February 14th. Fuck to the yes!

"We are proud to share the first song off our brand new album 'Stay For Those Who Care' with you. Available February 14th" said the band via social media today, adding, "To our friends, families and to anyone that cares, this one is for you."

I have been holding out for new music from these guys for a long while now and I'm happy to confirm that it's a solid return with 'For Those Who Care'.

As for this new song, it's the usual melodic guitars and emotionally honest and cathartic lyrics that the band is known for. For instance, see the track's intro guitar work and the chorus's lyrics of "Stay for those who care/Mike, you saved my life/I'll make it worth it/I'll never walk out again/I take back all I said." Now, I don't know the full context of those lyrics, nor do I know who Mike is but fuck me, the way that the vocals hit during that part of the song is just so impactful on both a sonic and emotional level.

In fact, Rob Scamarcia's screams have never sounded this pained and genuine, and the mid-song guitar solo wasn't something I thought that a band such as Perspectives would ever pull but I'm glad it's there all the same. Trophy Eyes singer, John Floreani, also lends his voice to this track in the form of his warm clean vocals, and they compliment Scamarcia's screams very well. And when you consider that it' has now been well over a year since the group's last release, which was 2015's 'Between White Space', this song, along with this new album on the near horizon, this is, once again, a welcome return.

Bring on February 14th!
