Just don't expect this new album to come out until late 2017 or early 2018, and that's at the earliest.

While his latest movie, Officer Downe, was released just last week on November 18th, being Shawn 'Clown' Crahan of Slipknot means that every single interview you do will eventually focus on Slipknot, whether the percussionist likes it or not.

That was the case with a recent interview with the Slipknot mastermind for Rolling Stones about his recent directional debut (which you can read here), where the topic of The Nine was brought up and incorporated into the piece many times. But the key excerpt from the interview that reveals the writing plans of the Iowa legends can be read below:

"Crahan is not about to kick up his feet and take an extended vacation anytime soon. With Slipknot on a break after a few years of touring in support of their .5: The Gray Chapter album, Crahan intends to use the time to assess what he wants to do next. He has a plan to get together with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root in early February and start writing new music – "because we want to write," Crahan adds – and they'll leave the date they actually go back into the studio up in the air. In the meantime, he hopes to make another film."

However, with Slipknot's usual track record for album releases, Crahan looking towards directing another movie in 2017, and with a new Stone Sour album apparently set for release next year, I'm betting that we won't see a follow-up to '.5: The Gray Chapter' until late 2017 or early 2018, and that's at the very earliest.

Update: Corey Taylor has basically confirmed what I said above, but the wait will be even longer, looking more like a 2019 release. Oh well, the band has already put out two of their best records with the self-titled and 'All Hope Is Gone' so I ain't fussed.

Officer Downe's bio from it's IMDB page reads, "Based on the graphic novel, a police officer who can't be stopped by death returns to the streets time and time again to fight crime." You can check out a brief teaser for the new film below, which also stars Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates as the resurrecting police officer himself.

Look, in all honesty, the trailer makes Officer Downe look like the good kind of trite and campy action flick. You know, like those shitty SyFy original movies that are so bad they are actually good. And well, with a current star rating of 4.2/10 on IMDB, I stand (somewhat) corrected about Crahan's film. Also, just putting it out there, but the final kill in the below teaser is just. Fucking. Ridiculous!
