Critical opinions aside, well done, lads.

In news that anyone with a brain and an attention span that lasts longer than a goldfish could have seen coming, The Amity Affliction have again hit number one with the release of their new album, 'This Could Be Heartbreak' (which is out now via Roadrunner Records).

However, the band aren't just doing well on the homefront. They've also landed on the US Billboard chart at #12 and made some headway in the UK market with a #1 on the UK rock charts and #51 overall. Cue party streamers and cake all around!

Now, when you consider that their recent national headline tour with Trophy Eyes entirely sold out weeks in advance and if the band's prior release history was to be assumed, this new album was nearly always going to sell by the goddamn truckload. Of course, just because something sells a metric fuck tonne of copies doesn't mean that it's inherently good, but who am I to piss on someone's love for a band and their new album? Well, I guess we save all of that for our reviews.

Anyway, I do think it's worth noting that there's only been a handful of Australian artists who've hit the top spot three consecutive times in the past. That includes the likes of Silverchair, old mate John Farnham, Hilltop Hoods and Missy Higgins. So Amity really sticks out of that crowd, all things considered.

But you know what? While I don't think that 'This Could Be Heartbreak' is some be-all end-all triumphant release, I'll give some big kudos to the guys in The Amity Affliction for their recent chart success. Hell, I remember when these guys played to half-empty rooms across the country and only half of those numbers actually gave a shit about them. Now, look at 'em!
