No seriously, it's exceptional!

Newcastle's Trophy Eyes have just delivered what is easily the best song of their careers with their new single, 'Chlorine'.

Okay sure, that is a bit presumptuous of me as they're still a young band, all things considered. But this latest tune outshines anything from 'Mend, Move On' and the 'Everything Goes Away' EP, both of which were solid releases to begin with.

The feel-good nature of the music video (filmed by Ed Reiss Films) for 'Chlorine' is just that; upbeat, cheery and surprisingly solid despite it basically being a band-plays-in-white-room film clip. However, those narrative shots in the clip's main location - a laundromat - really makes up for the typical performance shots shown.

The song's overall timbre and melodic nature is a sleight of hand movement to just how melancholic and emotional these lyrics actually are. A quick glance over the lyrics in the video's description reveals a heavy ode about saying farewell to a loved one, on remembering the good times you had with them, and on wishing for one last proper goodbye.

It's heavy material with powerful, honest anecdotes, but then again, I would expect nothing less from a band like Trophy Eyes.

Their upcoming second album is called 'Chemical Miracle' and is out through the usual culprits at Hopeless Records on October 14th. You can also catch the band supporting The Amity Affliction on the 'I Bring The Weather With Me Tour' later this month.
