Coming out of left field today was the announcement that Melbourne's Sentinel are going on an indefinite hiatus.

The progressive metalcore outfit (shut up, it's a thing) released their last EP, the rather solid 'The Primordial Ruin' about this time year. That release spawned the hectic as fuck single, 'Nadir'. As for 2016, they dropped a sweet new single earlier this year by the name of 'Grieve' (found below) and it's pretty damn good.

Taking to Facebook, the band made the hiatus announcement earlier this evening, which is more or less one year on from the release of 'The Primordial Ruin'. You can read the full statement below.

"One year ago we released our EP "The Primordial Ruin". In honour of this we are announcing to all of you that we are now going on an indefinite hiatus.

This band has always been something we've loved doing and it has given us so many amazing opportunities. We have got to play shows with some of our favourite bands, we've got to make some amazing friends and we've been able to spread our music to more people than we ever thought would be possible.

However, despite all of these incredible things we have come to realise that we all want different things out of life. There is no bad blood between any of us, we still love each other in a totally platonic way. But with these changes we realised it was time we were honest with ourselves and called it a day.

We may get back together at some point, we may not. We may release more music, we may not.

But we would like to take this chance to thank each and every one of you who have been with us on this journey.

All of the bands that we played with, cheers. All of the people that put us on shows, cheers. All of the people that came to our shows or bought/listened/shared our music, double cheers.

Thank you all so much, you've given us an amazing experience and we wish you all the best.

Brandon, Jake, Jamie, Dale and Ben"

Damn shame that. I hope that you saw the band live when you could!

Of course, Sentinel may be back in a year or two, but I know for damn sure that I'll be missing those sweet as fuck riffs the band would produce. Looks like I may have to go give 'The Primordial Ruin' another spin to mark this occasion.

Well, until next time, lads I bid you adieu.
