An album that...made you want to become a musician?

Rage Against the Machine – Evil Empire

Seeing as I started out as a bass player, the bass sound on this record is still in my opinion second to none. The sheer energy and aggression on this record inspired me to pick up a bass and start playing and writing riffs of my own.

An album that...has had the biggest impact and influence on you?

Devin Townsend – Infinity

This is a tough one though. The first song I heard of Devin's music was Deadhead, which is from Accelerated Evolution, and it was the music I had wanted to hear my whole life. Something crushingly heavy, but beautifully atmospheric at the same time. Infinity's underlying spiritual message hit me the hardest overall though. City by Strapping Young Lad also gets honourable mention for being the most insane first listen of an album to date. To me, nothing comes close to the intensity of that record.

An album that...instantly puts you in a good mood?

Rage Against the Machine – Evil Empire

This record gets another mention! Honestly though, no record gets me more pumped and stoked to be alive. It's also a great reminder to where I started out, and to never forget that we all started this journey because we loved those bands and records we listened to when we were younger.

An album that...is considered a guilty pleasure?

Daft Punk – Discovery?

I dunno, it's still a killer record in my opinion. Not to say my music taste is impeccable, but I can't really think of anything for this. Does liking Michael Jackson count? I don't think it should... I guess I do also like cheesy, trancey, electronic music with female vocals on the odd occasion. No real artists to mention though (laughs).

An album that...was considered a massive letdown?

Devin Townsend – Ghost

I thought I'd really get into this record, but I just didn't find it hit the spot for me. I must admit, I'm definitely more of an old-school fan. Everything prior to and including Synchestra/Alien to me is absolutely incredible, so I'm happy with that.

An album that...you wished you performed on?

The Dear Hunter – The Colour Spectrum

Yes, all 36 tracks of it. I would absolutely love to play The Dear Hunter's music, either on bass or guitar, as Casey's interest in multiple genres is something I have in common with him in terms of writing and recording music.

An album that...you consider underrated?

The Receiving End of Sirens – Between the Heart and the Synapse

This album was released in 2005, and to me achieved that post-hardcore vibe in a way that hasn't been matched since. Incredibly catchy song-writing, anthem-like three part vocals (points where the lyrics overlap too in an amazing tapestry), sweet old-school breakdowns, and loads of creativity that made it truly a unique record. This record flew so heavily under the radar, but for the people that know it, it is a massive inspiration.

An album that...you would like played at your funeral?

Ian Hawgood & Friends – Wolven: A Modern Interpretation

The second disc of this release is a colab between Ian Hawgood and bvdub, an electronic producer. The soundscape is like nothing I've ever heard before. It has this deep feeling of loneliness and darkness that I love to immerse myself in from time to time. Absolutely stunning music. Might be a little too dark for a funeral though. Way to make people feel worse!
