Boston’s Transit have just finished up a stint on the Van’s Warped Tour, and will now be making the trip to Australia for the very first time. We caught up with the band’s guitarist and vocalist Tim Landers ahead of the tour to discuss the run of dates, as well as the band’s fantastic new album "Listen & Forgive", which is out now through Rise Records.
Start off by stating your name, your role in Transit and the best band you have seen live so far in 2012?
Good start. My name is Tim, I play guitar and sing in Transit. The best band I have seen live in 2012 is Dead Sara.
What inspired you to first start playing your instrument of choice?
Third Eye Blind and Rolling Stones records made me want to pick up a guitar.
You’re currently out on Warped Tour at the moment, how are you finding that experience as a band?
It’s insane man. It’s been a blast- so many good people, great bands, good times, etc. It’s definitely a grueling experience, though. Lots of hard work.
How does it compare to doing a normal van tour?
It’s quite different. Warped Tour is its own little moving world. You never really step outside of an Amphitheatre or Parking lot.
Not long after you finish up on Warped, you will be making the trip to Australia for the very first time. Is this something you have been looking forward to for a while now?
Most definitely. Australia is a place we’ve been yearning to tour for a good while. So happy we’ve been given the opportunity to make it happen.
Have you spoken to friends that have already toured here regarding what you can come to expect touring here?
Of course. No one had anything to say but praise.
What do you hope to get out of this Australian tour?
A pet koala.
Is there anything in particular that you are looking forward to doing while you are in the country?
My friend Brett from a band called Fireworks is insisting that I go snorkeling in Manly Bay.
Do you have much of an existing knowledge about the music scene down here in Australia?
Not much. It seems like it is quite awesome, though.
Considering that you have quite a few releases under your belt now, what kind of mix can we expect to see on the set list for the tour?
We’re been talking about a set list, and we’re trying to touch on everything. A good balance of new and old jams.
Speaking of releases, your latest album “Listen & Forgive” has been out for a number of months now, how are you finding the reaction to the record now after this time?
It’s been great. It seems like people like to sing along to those songs, and we like that. I mean, that’s all you can really ask for as a band.
You recently re-released the album as a deluxe edition with a few bonus tracks, what was the reasoning behind releasing a deluxe edition of the album less than a year after its original release?
To put out some new material! Can’t stop won’t stop.
The band definitely seems to be fond of frequently releasing records, the latest being the deluxe edition of “Listen & Forgive” and the “Skipping Stone” 7”. Do you find that releasing records regularly is vital to the band in 2012? Or does it just come down to personal preference for that?
We just like to make music. Then we record it. Then we want to show people. Ya know? The process repeats itself.
The latest album was your first full-length release through Rise Records. How did you find it working with Rise on the album?
It was rad, they’re the best.
What is currently your favourite song to play live?
Hmm, I’ll have to go with “Skipping Stone.”
What is your fondest memory that you have from being a part of the band so far?
Doing the Warped Tour with my brothers.
Who are some bands you have been enjoying lately that we should be checking out?
Young Statues, Diamond Youth, Funeral Party and Hostage Calm.
Do you have any goals that you would like to achieve with this band?
Well, I wanted to tour to Australia. Now I guess it’s the moon.
What are the band’s plans for the rest of 2012?
Write write write write write.
Thanks for doing the interview, we are looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks. Any last words or shout outs?
Thanks for having us! We’re so excited. SUP.
