Start off by stating your name, what you play in Skyway and your favourite thing about being in a band?

I'm Dizza I play guitar and sing, Being able to be young and tour and not have to give a shit about full time jobs and bosses and just catching up with mates in every city.

Can you tell us a bit about how Skyway was formed?

We were all basically just mates at school and decided that any other bands we were in sucked so we just came together and made this band haha.

What bands would you say have influenced your musical taste to this day?

I think bands like One Dollar Short, Millencolin, Bodyjar and New Found Glory have influenced us heaps seeing as we all grew up listening to them.

The band’s debut EP was re-released this year with a few bonus tracks, what was the reasoning behind re-releasing the EP?

We were approached by a label in Japan and the deal was basically we had to either release the 6 track EP over there and then 6 months later release a full length or add 4 songs to the 6 track and release it as a semi full length and seeing as we weren't ready to do an album we chose to record 4 more songs and just decided to press it over here aswell. Why not?

The record was also released in Japan through In Ya Face Records, who have released records by Set Your Goals, Daggermouth, Fireworks and others. How did this deal fall into place?

The label owner is our friend Sams uncle so Sam hit him up and asked him to check us out and he was interested and it all went from there.

Speaking of Japan, you toured there earlier in the year with Frenzal Rhomb. How did that tour end up going?

That tour was amazing all the Inyaface crew looked after us so well, all the Frenzal guys ruled and it was just a sweet experience playing to people in another country, especially when some of them know your songs it's weird haha.

You are recording two new songs and a cover soon. What are you planning on doing with these new songs?

We ended up recording 3 new ones and a cover, I think we are going to release it as an online EP with a limited pressing of hard copies that'll come free with any shirt purchase.

Are you able to share with us what the cover is? Or are you keeping that a secret for a little while?

Yeah can't say much yet all I can say is it's not a cover by a band that sounds anything like us haha, I'm sure a lot of people might think it's the Set Your Goals cover that we've been playing live for the last 50 000 years I can assure you all that it's not.

A little while ago there were rumours flying around that the band was going to tour the USA. Is there any truth to these rumours?

They were all true it was set to be us and u.s band “With The Punches” a promoter contacted us so we said yes and he never contacted us again haha maybe he was a bit dodgy? Worked out well though cause we all would've be financially fucked for it anyway.

When is the band planning on recording a full-length record?

At this stage we're trying to land some kind of label deal with the new songs we're recording hopefully mid to late next year we will have plans set for an album release.

The band has done some pretty extensive touring already this year, touring with Heroes For Hire, Frenzal Rhomb, No Fun At All and Heroes For Hire. What have all of those tours been like for the band?

All of these tours have been good in their own way the Heroes one was just a bunch of mates driving around getting drunk and playing shows every night, Frenzal was amazing as I mentioned before just being overseas playing music was an experience and No Fun At All was kind of awkward for a band like us but at the end of the day it just ruled to be able to tour with a band of their status, amazing band.

Do you find that each tour the band has been getting a progressively better response?

Kind of, all the tours have been so different so we get a different response every time.

More and more pop punk bands are starting to pop up here in Australia recently. Do you think it will come to a point where the scene will be oversaturated with bands?

If it becomes anything like how the hardcore scene was a couple of years ago then yes haha but it's kind of hard to tell at the moment.

The band will be touring with The Wonder Years, Heroes For Hire and Tonight Alive in September. How do you think this tour will go?

It will be amazing The Wonder Years are such a good band and the tour is full of good friends, it's pretty much a win all round. With us opening each show I'm hoping that kids come down early enough to catch us!

Do any of you play in any other bands besides Skyway at the moment?

Nope everybody is pretty much just focused on this band

If you could tour with any three bands, who would you choose and why?

I personally would love to tour with Millencolin, One Dollar Short And New Found Glory I'm sure the other guys would have said something like Westlife, NSYNC and Il Divo but they're just my picks.

Who is the best band you’ve seen live so far this year?

New Found Glory at The Hi Fi Bar in Brisbane was by far the best, followed closely by No Fun At All at every show of their tour.

Who are some bands you have been enjoying lately that we should be checking out?

The Wonder Years

Man Overboard

This Time Next Year

Transit

And our mates bands

First Base

Milestones

Apart From This

What are the band’s plans for the rest of 2010?

We Have a north Queensland tour in June then we will be releasing the EP then touring with The Wonder Years in September that's it so far.

Thanks for doing the interview, any last words?

Yep. Keep it Metal!
