The annual Push Over Festival is set to take place on Sunday March 7th and we caught up with Melbourne's I Explode Like to chat about it all...

Let’s start with your name, and what you do in the band?

Hello, Jesse King, and I'm the lead vocalist/screamer of IEXPLODELIKE!

Tell us a bit about how you guys got together?

The band pretty much got together with a group of mates who had played in previous bands that didn't work out. Since then, the band has been through a couple of line-up changes to get to where we are now. We all believe that this line up is the strongest the band has been, and will push the band as far as possible.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

We've been labelled "trance-core" which in theory is a merging of trance and hardcore which if you have an understand of those two genres is basically what we've accomplished. But, if someone had no idea what those genres were I'd tell them to grab two CDs, one of your Dad's metal CD's from back in the day, one of your sisters dance CDs, and scream over the top (ha-ha). We try to merge dance music with the heavier more screamo type of music whilst keeping the typical dance hooks and grooviness to keep all listening parties happy!

When and why did you decide you wanted to play music?

In all seriousness, when I was in primary school me and my best mates at the time decided we wanted to be in a band to be as cool as Hanson (Yes, they were my favourite band – semi-embarrassing). At a young age I've always loved music, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I actually decided to pursue it.

What are you most looking forward to about playing Push Over 2010?

I'm looking forward to playing amongst such a diverse audience. You have people there who are into pop-punk, indie, hip hop, screamo, metal, etc. Hopefully we can tame all of their ears with our sound.

Any particular bands you would like to see on the bill?

Kisschasy should be pretty sweet hey!

What is the best thing about playing an all ages festival like Push Over?

Pretty much as mentioned before -the array of different people all jammed into one area.

What motivates the band to play music?

For me it's the amount of fun we have on stage, we're a serious band in the aspect that we push our music as hard as possible, but when it comes to a live show we're all in it for the good times and try to have as much fun as possible with ourselves and the audience.

What can people expect from your live show?

A heap of fun, occasionally I'll give Brock a kiss on the cheek, just for laughs (ha-ha)! We're very energetic and we'll more than likely make you clap along and what not - no matter what you'll be having a party with us!

Tell us what the band has planned for 2010?

We'll be writing and releasing our debut CD which hopefully everyone will dig! Then a heap of touring!

What was the last album you put on your iPod and how did you get into the band?

Jonny Craig - A Dream Is a Question You Don't Know How to Answer. I've always been a huge fan of his voice and when I heard he was releasing solo stuff I jumped at it.

Which member has the most annoying habit?

Tristan likes to flex his "so-called" muscles a lot and tell us how much bigger he's getting at gym (ha-ha), but that's why we love him!

What is your favourite Die Hard movie?

You choose one for me, I've never watched any!
