Northern Beaches rock band Ocean Alley have re-entered the ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart with their 2018 triple j Hottest 100 #1 hit, Confidence, after the track went viral following features on a recent TikTok trend, “behind every girl with incredible music taste”.

Over five years after its release, Confidence has grown so much in popularity that it’s re-entered the Singles Chart at #40 – after spending last week at #95 – and Ocean Alley are now one of four Australian acts to star on the chart (alongside Troye Sivan with Got Me Started, Rush and One Of Your Girls, The Kid LAROI with Bleed, and Vance Joy with Riptide).

Confidence has recently gone viral on TikTok, with the song being used over 51,000 times in users’ videos. Catching on to the trend and posting their own video, Ocean Alley’s TikTok from last week has been viewed over seven million times.

Confidence, which has already been certified six times Platinum, has experienced an enormous resurgence on digital streaming platforms, with the audience in the US overtaking Australia for the first time. The song’s streams have increased 1060% and 2912% on Spotify and Apple Music, respectively.

On playlists, Confidence is now #1 and #10 on Spotify's Viral 50 - USA and Viral 50 - Global. The single has also entered the UK's Independent Single Breakers Chart #19.

The Music’s Stephen Green recently predicted Confidence going viral globally after finding the track increasing in views and uses on TikTok.

Green wrote about Ocean Alley’s resurgence, “Prior to the TikTok trend, Ocean Alley were increasing by around 200 followers a day. However, from 1 November, the numbers have taken off, now rising by more than 2000 per day. Monthly listeners are rising at the rate of 11,000+ per day, a statistic that was flat up until the TikTok trend and is about to soar past two million.”

It’s been a massive year for Ocean Alley, who sold more than 42,000 tickets across their Australian headline shows, plus a further 35,000 tickets sold across 34 shows in the UK, Europe, North America and New Zealand.
