Doja Cat Holds #1 For Fourth Week With ‘Paint The Town Red’

Doja Cat increases her lead at #1 to a fourth stay for Paint the Town Red in Australia, plus it's now the new planetary #1 song.

Logging a fourth week at the top in Australia for Paint the Town Red, Doja Cat also performed the song at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA's) this past week, in a medley of her three issued singles from her upcoming new album Scarlet (due Sept. 22nd), starting with Attention, then she lead into Red, followed by her new entry from last week Demons (leaves the T100 this week after debuting at #77).

Doja's Red Painting increases its sales from last week and also remains at #1 on our local Hip-Hop/R&B Singles chart, plus in New Zealand it stays for a fifth week; a second week in both England and Canada, climbs to a new peak of #2 in Germany, slips from the top spot to #2 in Ireland after two weeks to Adore U by Fred Again.., while the song climbs to the top in Switzerland, The U.S.A., (becoming her second #1 there, after Say So did so in 2020), and also now atop the 'World Chart' after six weeks of charting.

While Doja seems to be painting the planet Red and issuing a new track called Balut, Olivia Rodrigo is spreading her Guts tracks all over the chart this week, as her second studio album debuts at #1 on the Albums Chart, and all twelve songs from the album land within the Top 40 this week, four of them within the Top 10, surpassing her June 2021 tally of ten tracks from her SOUR set within the Top 50. Her new albums' lead single vampire climbs back up five places to land at #2 (HP-1), while her second entry bad idea right? scores a new peak by leaping up twenty-one spots to land at #3, surpassing the #10 position it achieved upon entry five weeks ago (August 21st).

And like Olivia's first album scoring four Top 10 entries, this new set can now claim it's third and fourth Top 10 placements, as she debuts with two tracks from her Guts set at #6 with get him back! (the only other song from the album with a video clip at the moment) and all-american bitch at #10. Olivia Rodrigo also lands three Top 10 entries in both England and Ireland, while she ups it to five within the New Zealand Top 10 this week, plus she also performed several of her albums songs at the MTV VMA's this past week and won an award for vampire (Best Editing).

Dropping down two places each are three songs, starting with Cruel Summer for Taylor Swift, followed by Last Night by Morgan Wallen and then Sprinter for Dave and Central Cee, to numbers #4, #5 and #7 respectively. Dua Lipa sees her Barbie soundtrack entry Dance the Night drop down four places to land at #8, while the song is now ▲Platinum in sales and the only entry from the film within the Top 10 this week. Lastly down three spots to park at #9 is Luke Combs' rendition of Fast Car, which has now lapped it's twenty-first week within the Top 10, far more than the two previous versions achieved, for Tracy Chapman (1988, 7 weeks) and Jonas Blue (2016, 9 weeks).

TOP 20:

NEW PEAKS start with a #11 hold for Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves with I Remember Everything, while Zach's three-week-holding Something in the Orange drops four places to #16, plus he still has the #1 Country Album locally and holds for a second week at the top of the LP charts in both The U.S.A. and Canada. The No.1 Dance single locally for a third week in a row also sees a new peak for a fourth week, as Prada for cassö x RAYE x D-Block Europe rises three spots to land at a new peak of #15.

Two of the three Top 10 dropouts land within the Top 20, with The Weeknd, Playboi Carti and Madonna with Popular (HP-8, WI10-2) down four spots to #12, while Billie Eilish drops five places to #14 with her former #1 track What Was I Made for (HP-1x3, WI10-8). Two Olivia tracks debut within the Top 20, and the three remaining entries are FukUMean for Gunna (13 to #17), multi-VMA-nominee Miley Cyrus with Flowers (14 to #19) and its caregiver Sunlight by David Kushner (16 to #20).

TOP 30:

NEW PEAK goes to last week's highest new entry for Kenya Grace and Strangers, which creeps up fourteen places to land at a new chart height of #30. Five new Olivia Rodrigo tracks debut within the Top 30, so the four other remaining entries are Die for You by The Weeknd with Ariana Grande (HP-3x3, WI10-17) dropping down thirteen spots to #23, while a twelve place decline occurs for Nicki Minaj with Ice Spice and Aqua with Barbie World (15 to #27), which scores it's first sales certification of ▲Platinum in sales, plus Nicki was the MTV VMA's host, performing on the night also, while her collaborator Ice Spice picked up 'Best New Artist' for 2023.

Two further MTV VMA winners residing within the top 30 are 'Best Afrobeats Video' going to Calm Down for Rema and Selena Gomez (19 to #24), while the big winner of the night was Taylor Swift and her Anti-Hero track (22 to #29), winning ten awards in total; starting with Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Visual Effects, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Pop Video all for Anti-Hero, along with Artist of the Year, Show of the Summer and Album of the Year for Midnights.

TOP 40:

For the rest of the Top 50 there are nothing but declining tracks, all dropping down thanks to the Guts onslaught delivered by Olivia Rodrigo's second album. The highest placed Australian track and one of the smallest drops this week sees Vance Joy down three spots to #31 with Riptide, while single-digit drops also occur for Post Malone with Chemical (25 to #34) and Kill Bill by SZA (30 to #38).

Then it's double-digit-drops for Miley Cyrus and Used to Be Young (20 to #32), Rich Men North of Richmond by Oliver Anthony Music (17 to #33), The Kind of Love We Make by Luke Combs (23 to #35), Rush by Troye Sivan (21 to #36), I Ain't Worried for OneRepublic (27 to #37) and MTV VMAs winner JunkKook and Seven, which won for Song of the Summer.

TOP 50:

The Fleetwood Mac track Dreams has a two place dip to #43 this week, the smallest move within this chart region, while their newly issued Rumours Live set missed out on a Top 100 entry, but did manage a #32 entry in New Zealand, #26 in England an #23 in Ireland this week. Nine place drops occur for As it Was by Harry Styles (first time ever outside of the Top 40 in its 76 week chart run) and (it goes like) Nanana for Peggy Gou (still #1 Club Chart single), dropping to #41 and #46 respectively.

For only the third time this year the Glass Animals track Heat Waves drops into the Top 50, down ten spots this week to #45, with twelve place falls going to Boy's a Liar (pt.2) (36 to #48) and Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi (38 to #50), while three tracks all drop thirteen places; Save Your Tears by The Weeknd (29 to #42), Creepin' by Metro Boomin', The Weeknd and 21 Savage (31 to #44) and Karma for Taylor Swift (34 to #47), while The Weeknd score a third Top 50 entry-and-drop-down as Starboy plummets back down sixteen spots to land at #49 this week, in fact most of his material declines this week (and will most likely rise again in November when he tours here), as Blinding Lights (43 to #61) and The Hills (60 to #90) fall back down in the lower fifty.

* #39 - teenage dream (Geffen) all the ten remaining tracks from the new #1 album this week for Olivia Rodrigo called Guts, which by entering at the top becomes her second chart-topping album in Australia, giving her now a new chart feat: first overseas Female Artist to see their first two albums and their lead singles all go to #1 in Australia, matching the feat achieved by local Female Artist Delta Goodrem when she also saw her debut and second album plus their lead singles all go to #1 (2003-2004), but unlike Delta, Olivia did so by debuting at #1 on both charts with both singles and albums, whereas Delta climbed to #1 on the singles chart with her first entry Born to Try.

Overseas Olivia Rodrigo lands three entries in the English and Irish Top 10's (and due to multiple-album track limitations on those charts there are no further entries), while New Zealand also sees all twelve tracks from her new album within their Top 40 (between #2 and #34), while five of those entries are within the Top 10 too. Her four limited edition colour vinyl editions of her Guts album all have a different bonus track on their release, Obsessed ("G" Red Vinyl), Scared of My Guitar ("U" White Vinyl), Stranger ("T" Blue Vinyl) and Girl I've Always Been (S Purple Vinyl), none of which chart this week.
