Award-winning Australian songwriter Monique Clare is today unveiling the powerful new music video for her latest single, It Works, premiering on theMusic.com.au.

It Works is the second single lifted from the Brisbane artist's forthcoming debut album, set for release in 2021, and the clip explores "one particularly pervasive facet within the realm of advertising: beauty".

"The beauty industry fascinates me, pulls me in and spits me out; I have a simultaneous respect and aversion to it," Clare told The Music.

"The video begins in darkness, gradually evolving into a brightly lit montage of bold, colourful makeup looks. It luxuriates in decadence and extravagance. This is juxtaposed by the forest scene, set in a wide-open space drenched with natural sunlight, beautiful in its own ancient, quiet way.

"It begs the question: why do we work so hard to manufacture beauty when it’s already all around us?

"The video culminates with the protagonist hysterically grabbing at her own face to pull the makeup off, attempting the break out of the 'spell'.
