VIDEO PREMIERE: As A Rival - Obsolete

Melbourne punks As A Rival are getting ready to hit the road for another run of shows in the wake of their enthusiastically received debut album, By Design, unveiling a brand new single and clip in the form of frenetic banger Obsolete, proudly premiering on theMusic.com.au today.

The track features guest vocals from Bodyjar guitarist/vocalist Tom Read, with the clip directed by Aly Whitmore. It follows an aged punk-rocker evidently clinging to the brighter days of his youth while vocalist Pete Cerni howls evocative ruminations on the fleeting nature of youth and social relevance as we're helplessly pulled along our life's journey by the unflinching march of The Great Bastard, Father Time. We've all grappled with such issues, or will soon, which gives the track a nice boost of relatability along with its base anthemic energy and infectiousness.

The four-piece have enjoyed a buzzworthy first half to 2016 since launching their album, knocking over a successful 12-date tour of the east coast before packing out the Cherry Bar at home as well as netting their first major support slot at 170 Russell. 

It's looking like it'll all be upward bound for the foreseeable future, too: the band will kick off their Obsolete spring fling at The Eastern, Ballarat, on Friday 5 August (with support from Agent 37, Northwood and Avora), going on to complete an extensive run that includes shows in Bendigo (with Eater Of The Sky and Gladstone), Hobart (with Cardinals, Shark Puncher, Laser Brains and Mountains Of Madness), Launceston (with Cardinals, Laser Brains and Cape Grim), Mt Gambier (guests TBA), Adelaide (with Black Avenue, The Dirty Chins and Across The Atlas), Canberra (with Raised As Wolves, Sketch Method and Yoko Oh No), Sydney (with Dividers, Ebolagoldfish, The Great Awake and Raised As Wolves), Uludulla (with Nerdlinger, The Great Awake, Raised As Wolves and more), Geelong (with Good For Wednesday, The Louds, In The Esky and Magnus) and Melbourne, where they wrap up at the Ding Dong Lounge on Saturday 8 October with support from Under The Cut, Gladstone and Cardinals.
