Mimi Gilbert (VIC)

Unload The Gun

Longtime singer-songwriter Mimi Gilbert has returned to music with a controlled folk-centred ballad that speaks volumes about what time away from the rat race can do for one's soul and creative energy. Beautiful doesn't really encapsulate the feeling that this song delivers. Filled with big waves of emotion that catch you off guard, Gilbert's voice guides you through and provides a helping hand. In short, ditch your therapist because Unload The Gun will give you all the breakthroughs you'll ever need.

Siobhan Cotchin (WA)

When The Curtains Close

Siobhan Cotchin delivers her first single this year after a major 2022, releasing her E.P Highways and Heartbreaks, scoring her three WAM awards. Her new single, When The Curtains Close, is a beautiful country ballad, which sees Cotchin switch gears from her previous lean towards more rock inspires songs. While it's soft and slow, this song is easily one of the best that Cotchin has written and solidifies her stance as an immensely talented songwriter. It quietly pays homage to old-school Taylor Swift when she was in her Fearless era while still bringing in her own unique point of view.

The Empty Threats (SA)

Boys in the Gutter

Boys In The Gutter is the newest punk-inspired banger that The Empty Threats have gifted us, and I truly do mean gifted. Inspired by the overturning of Roe V Wade, The Empty Threats have delivered an inspiring anthem that tackles the injustices around women's reproductive rights. Filled with driving guitars and chant-worthy lyrics, the band scream and taunt the overall message, "If It's not your body, then it's not your rights," adding a much-needed political view into today's music landscape. This one will be insanely cathartic at their gigs and will provide the perfect opportunity to rally against the patriarchy. Meet you there at 9?

Noah Vernon (VIC)

IN TOO DEEP!

Classic cool boy Noah Vernon comes back at us with a bop of a love song, IN TOO DEEP! detailing the collapse of a relationship. The new track channels a 2010's nostalgia that we didn't know we needed, with the song using the rhythm of the acoustic guitar to drive Vernon's lush vocals and catchy whistle hook. You'd easily catch IN TOO DEEP! on a So Fresh Summer Hits album back in the day, so it's the perfect pop banger in our books.

aleksiah (SA)

Fern

Fern is the first single ever released by South Australian singer/songwriter aleksiah, and since listening, we have quickly become her number one fan. Tight songwriting and rhythmic guitars lay the bed for aleksiah's rich and amber-like vocals to shine. Creative lyrics litter the song, and there is a sense of maturity that some songwriters never seem to grasp that Aleksiah has locked onto with ease. Fern embodies the same upbeat-melody-sad-lyric formula that Gretta Ray's hit single Drive possessed, and we are so excited to see where it takes her.
