"‘Red Velvet’ explores how we express ourselves on the everyday stage of life - are we putting on a show to mask who we are?"
As lush as its namesake, the brand new track Red Velvet from Tasmanian singer-songwriter Nuria oozes modern indie stylings with glitz and darker territory lying in wait, exclusively premiering right here with The Music.
Written and recorded by Nuria, aka indie-pop artist Anna Maynard, in her home studio, Red Velvet is a reflection of the beguiling and layered journey that has led to Nuria concocting music.
From choosing a "sensible" day job as a doctor to finding her way creatively, Red Velvet is the third offering from Nuria, with her previous singles Juliette and Closer finding love on community radio, while also unveiling a seasoned artist along the way.
Balancing raw power with soul-shifting beauty, Red Velvet ultimately offers a glossy indie gem, while positing the notions of honesty and integrity against the conscious and subconscious roles we often take on in our day to day lives.
"I’ve done a lot of theatre over the years and what I love the most about it is the freedom to disappear behind a character and express myself without inhibition," Nuria said.
"Red Velvet explores how we express ourselves on the everyday stage of life - are we putting on a show to mask who we are? And if so, who is our audience?”
